An important start to every school year is a review of our ‘Code of Conduct’. This code guides everyone inside our school building and encourages them to be the best version of themselves! It also ensures that everyone is safe, happy, motivated and respected when at school.

The 2020/2021 school year kicked off with a vibrant and exciting topic – Art! In order to inspire our students and to make a link between their studies and the school Code of Conduct, we told them that each and every one of us is a ‘work of A.R.T’, this stands for acceptance, respect and tolerance. Encouraging the students to demonstrate these three words every day has enriched their understanding and implementation of the code of conduct.

In order to display the discussions taking place inside each classroom, the students collaborated on a creative piece to decorate the staircase. Each class came up with their own artistic concept to celebrate acceptance, respect and tolerance. We think the diverse pieces are beautiful! They celebrate our school’s unique culture and what a wonderful place it therefore is!

Making our Code of Conduct a living, breathing element of everyday life at school is an important, ongoing focus for us. We therefore made it our central theme for Christmas! ‘Shining from Within’, and ‘Spreading Kindness’ were the guiding ideas that encouraged the children to think of others. Our school shone in the darkness because of our candle window displays, and from within we thought of as many ways as possible to share with our community. Wishing the neighbouring offices, shops and schools a very Merry Christmas, was a great chance to get in touch with others. The children wrote letters to retirement homes in Küsnacht to help bring a smile to those who had been spending a lot of the Christmas season isolated from their families. In each classroom a kindness advent calendar inspired the children to carry out simple acts of kindness and selflessness with their classmates on a daily basis.

We plan to continue this important focus to encourage our students to shine from within and to show their best when communicating and interacting with others in our school.
